2024 JIM HOGG COUNTY FAIR HOMESHOW RULES
FOOD DIVISIONS, ARTS, & CRAFTS DIVISION, TRADE DIVISION
& PHOTO DIVISION
Student participants must be enrolled in Jim Hogg County I.S.D or be a member in good standing of a local 4-H or FFA.
Participants may enter one (1) entry per category, per division. Categories are: cake, cookies, bread, candy, drawing, painting, wood & metal trades. Divisions are: Arts & Crafts, Foods & Wood & Metal Trade.
Photography Participants may enter one (1) entry per category.
Categories are: Color & Black & White
Divisions are: Nature, Animals, People & Miscellaneous
If participant places in more than one division, he/she may auction only ONE project.
Each participant in the student division will be responsible for having their projects validated by March 3, 2024. Pre-validation will be held from February 15 – March 1, 2024. Final validation will be on March 3, 2024 between 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Jim Hogg County Fair Pavilion. Each project must be validated with an entry form. Entry forms may be acquired from any committee member. Fee for validation will be $10.00. No late entries will be accepted after validation date. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Projects must be checked in at the Pavilion on March 15, 2024 between 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Projects that arrive after 9:00 a.m. will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Pre-Kinder through second grade may participate in the primary school exhibition only. Third grade through fifth may participate in the food division (No decorative cakes), art & crafts and photography. Sixth grade through twelfth grade may participate in all divisions.
ARTS & CRAFTS – Art, Decorative Art, Creative Art
- Drawing and Paintings may be matted NOT framed and must NOT be signed.
- If drawing or painting places, the project may be framed for the auction ONLY.
- Arts and Crafts Division project will be placed in specific categories by Division Chairman.
- Arts and Crafts projects must have been made within the last 12 months.
FOOD DIVISION – Cookies, Cakes, Bread, Decorative Cakes, Candy, Mixed-Plus
- Recipe used for project must be validated.
- Recipe must be attached to the project.
- Projects must be made from scratch except for decorative cake and Mix-Plus categories.
- Projects must be covered.
- Projects must not contain alcohol as an ingredient. (Liquor, Beer, Wine, Liqueur, etc.)
- Projects must not have participants name on them.
- With the exception of Decorative Cakes, NO decorations will be allowed with the project.
- Decorative cakes must have instructions how to decorate the cake.
- Food projects must fall under a specific category.
- Food projects MUST be in covered aluminum disposable pans, with the exception of decorative cake.
PHOTOGRAPHY DIVISION – Nature, Animals, People, Miscellaneous
- Photo must be an 8 X 10.
- Photos may be matted but NOT framed. If photo places it must be framed for the auction.
- No nudity will be accepted. Photos will be judged in two divisions: Color and Black & White.
TRADE DIVISION – Metal and Wood
- Trade Division projects must have been built within the last 12 months.
Judging of projects will begin at 9:00 a.m. on March 15, 2024.
Projects will be awarded places (1st -3rd) in each category. Grand Champion will be selected from all 1st place winners. Reserve Champion and Honorable Mention will be selected from remaining first place with the second-place winner replacing the category that was awarded Grand Champion
Projects will be auctioned on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. by placing order inside the JHC Fair Pavilion. Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, Honorable Mention and 1st – 2nd place from each category.
4% will be deducted from every entry auctioned.
Primary age group exhibitors are not subject to the auction.
Projects that are not eligible to be sold at the auction may be sold on an individual basis outside of the Jim Hogg County Auction.
Judge’s decisions will be final.
All projects in the Food Division, Arts & Crafts Division, Trade Division and Photography Division, must be exhibited at the auction by the owner. No stand-in substitutes.
Attire and Grooming for the auction must be proper and presentable. Please use common sense. No shorts, tank tops, see-through, low-cut clothing, etc. No chewing um!
All projects must be picked up immediately after the auction. Anything left in the Jim Hogg County Pavilion will be disposed of
Each participant selling a project at the auction is responsible to make their own thank you cards. Thank you cards cannot be combined with any other projects or participants.
Noncompliance of any rule will result in disqualification.
Absolutely no refunds will be made after validation.
No Pass…. No Play rule will be enforced.
Homeshow Committee reserves the right to settle any and all questions or discrepancies that may arise concerning entries or other matter concerning the Homeshow.
